Swimming Instructor Training May 31, 9 am-6 pm
Training to become a swimming instructor to teach swimming lessons, swim or stroke school, and various water safety topics.
The Starfish Swimming Instructor certification course will train Instructor candidates to teach swim lessons using the Starfish Aquatics Institute lesson program. This course will develop their understanding of how to use program materials, conduct training sessions/lessons, and evaluate participants' progress.
This course includes an online component that must be completed before the start of class. The online component takes approximately 10 hours to complete. The online learning will be assigned after registering for the class.
The course can be bridged to the American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor.
Prerequisites
Instructor candidates MUST be at least 16 years old
Demonstrate the ability to perform the following swimming skills (on the first day of class):
Swim the following strokes consistent with Starfish Stroke School:
Front Crawl, Back Crawl, Elementary Backstroke, Sidestroke - 25 yards
Butterfly, Breaststroke - 15 yards
Back float for 30 seconds (floating or sculling)
Tread water for 1 minute
Survival float for 2 minutes
Certification Requirements:
Complete all online learning prior to the first class
Attend all class sessions
Demonstrate competency in all required skills and activities
Score an 80% or better on the final written exam
We are happy to accommodate life changes as much as possible. Any non-refundable certification fees (e.g., ARC, SGE, SA online class costs) or processing costs are deducted from refunds. The certification fee is $60, and we incur this cost when registering a participant for the online training content. The $60 fee for the online content is good for 12 months and can be applied to a future lifeguard or swimming instructor class. The course fee is non-transferable and must be used by the original participant.
1. Full Refunds
Participants are eligible for a 100% refund if:
They cancel at least 7 days before the first class
The course is canceled by the program
A participant is unable to attend due to documented medical reasons
2. Partial Refunds
50% refund if cancellation occurs 3–6 days before the first class
No refund on or after 48–72 hours before the course begins
3. After the Course Begins
No refunds once the class starts
This includes:
Failure to pass the prerequisite swim tests
Missed classes
Failure to complete the required skills or score a minimum of 80% on the exams
4. Transfers & Credits
One-time transfer to a future class (if requested before start date, the participant's name is the same and the training is the same)
Program credit is valid for 90 days and is based on the current class schedule and availability of training dates. If no training is available, we will use the refund policy that applies to your situation, minus the certification and processing fees.
